When you are driving on Highway 101 from Table Bluff to Alton you can see a little white lollipop on the top of Bunker Hill, in the Wildcat Range between the highway and the ocean. There are also a lot of other antennas up there that you cannot see, but this little lollipop is a seven story tall NEXRAD Doppler radar and it is used to determine precipitation and wind direction up to 150 miles away.
By the way, there is a beautiful 360 degree panoramic view from that location. Take Monument Road in Rio Dell to Bear River Ridge Road, or take the Ferndale/Petrolia road.
